The global system Welsing refers to as the cornerstone of the white supremacy power base consists of “patterns” that are found in nine areas of human activity: economics, education, entertainment, labor, law, politics, religion, sex and war. Former Editor-in-chief of the enormously popular magazine Essence, Susan L. Taylor is also the author of 1993's In the Spirit, a collection of essays reprinted from her Essence column of the same name. She was called "the most influential black woman in journalism today" by American Libraries in 1994.
Susan L. Taylor, who at the height of her occupational success, was so moved by the need for providing direction and support for discouraged and endangered inner city youth, left her prosperous post with Essence magazine to be the founder of the National Cares Mentoring Movement.
