Over 45 minutes of Grand Agent vocal's over DJ Premiere beats! The story behind this mix-tape goes like this. About 4 month's ago Grand Agent and myself were looking at different ideas and concepts for a full package mix-tape to please all of the die-hard golden era hip-hop heads and we said why not take one of the most influential producers in the game (DJ Premiere) and add to his beats one of the most gifted mc's out of Philly (Grand Agents) vocals to it. Unfortunately at the time no one in the hip-hop world really knew the circumstances to what Guru was going through (R.I.P. to a truly gifted individual and a great person at heart). So with that being said we did not go into this project after he passed away looking to exploit or gain a free ride off of the decade plus years at what Gang Starr has given us we were just paying respect to one of the most complete hip-hop groups in history. This is a rough final mix so it will be a little gritty but the polished project will be available for free download on Tuesday May 18th 2010 at I Tunes located within the Indi Spotlight feature on there website. The year is 97/98 The Artifacts are opening up for Jay-Z and the Roc-A-Fella Records camp at The Pennsylvania State University. The Artifacts smash their set to a lukewarm crowd and the campus facility has to be shut down for the night before Jay-Z arrives in town. The talk is Jay-Z was a no show! The Artifacts stop through the premiere college radio show in town, The No Doubt Show hosted by The Mayor Mike Jax and DJ Opal. The show is in the vein of classic New York hip hop radio shows like Stretch and Bobbito on WKCR and Future Flavors with Pete Rock and Marley Marl. We played what we liked and we had the town on lock. Take a listen as the end of The Artifacts hour long freestyle session turns ugly. 15 minutes after the Boom Skwad heads out to a college party Dame Dash and Jay-Z show up to settle the score.
